Drona Desai shattered several records during his knock of 498, playing for his school St Xaviers (Loyola), against JL English School in the Diwan Ballubhai Cup under-19 multi-day tournament at Shivay cricket ground in Gandhinagar on September 24 (Tuesday).
The Indian Express reported that the 18-year-old hit seven sixes and 86 fours in his 320-ball knock. The annual tournament is conducted by the Central Board of Cricket Ahmedabad, which comes under the Gujarat Cricket Association.
Pranav Dhanawade (1009 not out), Prithvi Shaw (546), Dr Havewalla (515), Chamanlal (506 not out) and Arman Jaffer (498) are some of the other batters who have registered big individual scores in the past at the junior level.
“There is no scoreboard in the ground and my team didn’t inform me that I was batting on 498, I went to play my stroke and got out but I’m happy that I managed to get those runs,” Desai told the Indian Express about missing out on 500.
Desai has played for the Gujarat Under-14 side and now wants to break into the state’s Under-19 set-up.
