A monster second round propelled Gillis MacDougall to a hometown disc golf victory over the weekend.
The Greenfield resident posted an 8-under-par 54 in his second of two rounds, ultimately holding onto a one-shot victory in the Mixed Professional Open Division (MPO) at Westy Open Weekend held at the Westy Acres Disc Golf Course in Greenfield.
MacDougall opened the weekend with a 2-under 60, and finished the two-day tournament at 10-under 114. He birdied four of his final five holes on Sunday to get to 10-under.
That was one shot better than runner-up Justin Patenaude of Harvard, who was 9-under (115). Leverett’s Reuben Hagen was third (5-under 119), followed in fourth place by Orange’s Zach Longeill and Cheektowaga, N.Y.’s Ryan Guiher (both at 4-under 120). Erving’s Kyle Bergmann tied for sixth place (2-under 122).
Monson’s Carli Bennett-Charron won the Women’s Pro Open Division (WPO) with a 4-over 130. Michelle Longeill of Orange took fifth (134).
Greenfield’s Drew Stephan was third in the Mixed Amateur 1 Division (11-under 115), while fellow Greenfield resident Erik Brandl captured first place in the Mixed Amateur 50-Plus Division with a 1-over 127. Lisa Brandl of Greenfield was the Women’s Amateur 50-Plus Division winner (150), and Greenfield’s Teri Westbrook took first in the Women’s Amateur 60-Plus Division (129).
Greenfield’s Dustin Gass finished fourth in the Mixed Amateur 2 Division (2-under 124). Kyle Killay of Athol took third in the Mixed Amateur 3 Division (12-under 114).
Conway’s Ira Band was the runner-up in the Mixed Amateur 60-Plus Division (9-under 117), followed closely in third place by Bob Compton of Shelburne Falls (7-under 119). Chris Buckle of Warwick was third in the Mixed Amateur 40-Plus Division (1-over 127).
