Clarissa’s School of Performing Arts in Greencastle Christmas Parade
Students from Clarissa’s School of Performing Arts displayed their talents in the Greencastle Christmas Parade Saturday morning, Nov. 23.
The Greencastle-Antrim High School Class of 1979 will continue to make a difference with its annual golf tournament, this year raising money for suicide prevention.
The seventh annual Classmates for a Cause will be held Saturday, May 10, at Penn National Golf Club.
The class has been affected by suicide over the years, and suicide prevention is a cause “really near and dear to my heart,” said tournament organizer Candy Mowen.
“Two days before Thanksgiving 2024, my 30-year-old cousin committed suicide, and there are still so many unanswered questions,” Mowen said.
“He lived beside us, and I saw him that afternoon, I still think about ‘what if’ or ‘what could have I done?’ ” she continued. “The resources are needed to help this in our area.”
Over the past six years, the golf tournament has raised over $55,000. The first tournament was organized in memory of classmate Cheryl Myers, who suffered catastrophic injuries in a fall.
Last year, part of the proceeds benefited another classmate, Vickie Stouffer, who is paralyzed from being hit head-on by a drunk driver. The 2024 fundraiser also benefited Noah’s House, which helps people in recovery from substance abuse.
Other beneficiaries have included:
Year 2: American Cancer Association
Year 3: American Heart Association
Year 4: Alzheimer’s and Dementia
Year 5: ALS
Registration will begin at 7 a.m. and the four-person scramble will get underway with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The tournament will be held rain or shine.
Registration is $90 per person and includes 18 holes with cart; driving range and putting green; lunch catered by the Altland House; and two adult beverage tickets. BYOB also is allowed.
A $10 game day package includes one power ball, two mulligans, one handy sandy and all course contests, prizes and raffles.
