UWGB women celebrate with fans at Kress for final time this season
The UWGB women’s basketball team celebrated a win over Oakland with fans at the Kress Center on Thursday.
MIDDLETON – Ryker Thomas scored three goals and Nathan Anttie added two as the Tritons punched their ticket to the state championship game with the Division 1 semifinal win.
Trailing 1-0 after giving up a power-play goal to Wausau West’s Drake Kuharski at the 7:09 mark of the first period, Notre Dame (19-8) took command by scoring the next five goals.
Jack O’Brien evened things up at the 10:43 mark of the first period off an assist by Jake Molaski.
Andrew Ostermann put Notre Dame up 2-1 just one minute later, scoring unassisted.
The onslaught continued just over a minute later when Anttie scored, followed three minutes later by Thomas’ first goal.
Thomas opened up the second period with a goal at the 3:11 mark to make it 5-1.
The Warriors weren’t done, however, as they clawed their way back to within one on goals by Joe Graveen, Chase Crass and Cooper Depuydt.
But Thomas stemmed the tide with a goal at 12:33 of the second period to make it 6-4 entering the final period.
Carson Schroeder made it 7-4 at the 3:57 mark, before Anttie finished things off with an empty-netter at the 14:17 mark.
Others adding assists for the Tritons were Tripp Wroblewski with two, and Ostermann, Schroeder and Mader with one each.
Anton Widas made 32 saves in net for Notre Dame, while Julian Scalcucci had 23 and Chase Crass three for the Warriors.
West outshot Notre Dame 36-34.
With the loss, the Warriors close out their season at 21-7.
The Tritons will take on Edgewood Sacred Heart, a 5-4 triple-overtime winner over Brookfield, in Saturday’s title game at 7 p.m.
MADISON – The Bay Port Pirates came close to making it to the Division 1 team championship match Friday.
Bay Port defeated Reedsburg 46-30 in the quarterfinals and then came within one match of defeating Arrowhead.
Instead, the Warhawks advance to the state title match with a 35-34 win over Bay Port.
Trailing 35-19, the Pirates needed to win their last three matches with two coming by pin for the win.
They got a win at 120 from Owen Wathke for six points, a win by technical fall by Braeden Hamill for five points at 126 but at 132, Alois Schlumpf only got a major decision good for four points.

DE PERE – The top-seeded Redbirds pulled away with a big second half to advance to Saturday’s regional final against eighth-seeded Arrowhead.
After grabbing a 14-point lead at the break, De Pere closed on a 48-16 second-half run.
Pryce Gregoire led the Redbirds with 21 points, while Zach Kinziger added 17 and Will Krueger 11.
Micah Kubsch led the Ships with 13 points, while Brayden Steinbecker added 12.
With the win, De Pere moves to 24-1, while Manitowoc finishes its season at 9-17.

OSHKOSH – Zay Mitchell poured in 29 points and Bryce Ott chipped in 19 as the Spartans outlasted the Pirates in a regional semifinal matchup.
With the win, seventh-seeded Oshkosh North will take on second-seeded Homestead in a regional final Saturday.
Stefan Stolijovic added 10 points for the Spartans.
Bay Port was led by Mondes Kelly with 23 points. Also powering the Pirates were Maddox Cornette with 19 points and Sawyer Durkee with 15.
Oshkosh North is now 16-9 overall, while Bay Port finishes at 14-11.

GREEN BAY – Austin Hendricks and Andrew Rader scored 16 points each as the Tritons built a big halftime lead and cruised to the regional semifinal win.
Also scoring in double digits for Notre Dame were Adam Guyette with 14, Jack Warden with 12 and Leo Weber with 11.
Josh Parins powered Luxemburg-Casco with 16 points, while Jacob Coisman added 10.
The Tritons led by 25 at intermission and outscored the Spartans 36-19 in the final 18 minutes.
With the win, Notre Dame moves to 19-6 overall and will face Plymouth in Saturday’s regional final.

WITTENBERG – The Tigers scored the game’s first nine points and Wrightstown’s defense held the Chargers’ leading scorer Jett Rogowski to a season-low 13 points en route to the regional semifinal win.
Seventh-seeded Wrightstown will now face third-seeded Seymour in Saturday’s regional final.
Ethan Cyra led the Tigers with 23 points.
Also powering Wittenberg-Birnamwood were Zandyr Barke with 21 points and Oliver Fraaza with 12.
Wrightstown moves to 15-11 overall, while the Chargers finish 17-8.

IOLA – The Wolves made 15-of-17 free throws in the second half to defeat the Thunderbirds in the regional semifinal.
Braeden Leist led Algoma with 17 points. Parker Lischka added 16 points, while Chase Romdenne and Cory Kirchmann added 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Alex Robbins led Iola-Scandinavia with 22 points. Landon Fuhs, Korz Loken and Jaric Trellian added 12, 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Iola-Scandinavia, which finishes with an 18-6 record.
Algoma (19-5) will play Southern Door in Brussels for the regional title.

St. Mary Catholic, which made 16 3-point baskets against Crivitz on Tuesday, made only two against Southern Door.
Preston Fields scored 22 points and Mason Uhlenbrauck had 20 to lead St. Mary Catholic (13-13).
