A greater Los Angeles-area golf course is promising to rebuild “stronger” than ever after their clubhouse was consumed by flames from the Eaton wildfire.
Altadena Golf Course, which is located inside of five miles from Rose Bowl Stadium just northeast of Pasdena in Altadena, said in an Instagram post on Wednesday that its clubhouse “did not survive” after the wildfire ravaged the area, fueled by Santa Ana winds that nearly topped 100 mph in places on Tuesday night.
In addition to the clubhouse, the nine-hole course, which opened in 1910, was also damaged in the fire.
“It is with a heavy heart that we share the loss of Altadena Golf Course,” the club wrote in a post on Instagram, showing video of the fire damage. “During this time we’re focused on supporting our community, employees, and everyone affected by this tragic event.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to the brave firefighters, first responders, and volunteers who are working through this.”
The fires throughout Southern California have impacted hundreds of thousands though casualties, property damage, evacuations and more. The Los Angeles Kings of the NHL postponed their scheduled Wednesday night game in response to the ongoing fires.
California governor Gavin Newsom deployed the National Guard to help fight the fires on Wednesday.
The PGA Tour is scheduled to come to the Pacific Palisades for The Genesis Invitational, played at Riviera Country Club annually. The Tiger Woods-hosted $20 million tournament is scheduled for February 13-16. The PGA Tour has not indicated any potential changes to the tournament as a result of the fires and related damages. Riviera Country Club has been spared damage from the fire, though the outer edge of the fire got within a half-mile of the club.
