GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) – Kinsey Gaede, is a third generation of horseman and trainers in Grand Island.
Kinsey found her passion for horses when she was young girl – her grandfather Milton Gaede and father Les Gaede would take her to the race tracks throughout her childhood.
“Growing up in Grand Island it was something I look forward to,” said Kinsey. “Seeing the horses coming back and just getting to be here, the races everything and it just something I looked forward to.“
Kinsey shared she started working full-time with the horses when she was 14-years old.
“I started grooming, ponying, just started helping around with things and make things run smooth,” said Kinsey. “We get here at 4 a.m., we feed everybody, make sure they all have water then we get them out and walk, clean their stalls, fill their hay bag and, if they go the track, we send them to track in order.”
Kinsey added she’s made many memories over the years, but there’s one she will never forget.
“The horse I had, he was in the same race and one my grandpa’s horses,” said Kinsey. “The horse, we’re actually half-brothers, and I ended up winning that race and my grandpa was in second, so it was pretty special. He walk on the track and said, ‘Well you finally beat me at something,’ we kind of laugh about it and I will carry that forever with me because that was special.“
Kinsey, now 24-years old and mother of two children, said she’s hopes to pass the torch to her kids when they get older.
