ITHACA, N.Y. –
The Ithaca College golf team played a round to remember on September 21 as part of the second day of the Cortaca Cup at RaNic Golf Course as the Bombers shot a school record 293 (+5) to beat Cortland by 36 strokes. IC also earned another point with the lowest individual round to take a commanding, 5-0, lead heading into tomorrow’s 18-hole match play at Cortland Country Club.
The round of 293 surpasses IC’s previous school record of 302 set just a few weeks ago at the Ithaca Invitational. Ithaca’s performance on Saturday ties for the fifth-lowest team score in Division III so far in the fall season.
The only scores lower this fall are 285 (No. 9 Washington-St. Louis), 289 (No. 6 Williams), 291 (No. 12 St. Catherine) and 292 (No. 21 Rhodes).
Madison Coffey and Helena Winterberg tied for the low round with career-lows, 1-under 71.
Coffey went out 2-under with birdies on the par-5 3rd and par-4 6th. After a bogey to start the back nine, she holed out eight pars. Winterberg also made two birdies on the front nine, the par-4 4th and 6th. She then shot two more birdies on the back with threes on the par-4 10th and 17th.
Annika Michel carded a career-best 74 (+2) to finish in third place, while Annelise Stencel shot 77 (+5) to finish in fifth. Rheanna DeCrow was next on the leaderboard in sixth with a 79 (+7).
Michel carded three birdies on the day – the 6th, par-5 8th and par-3 11th. Stencel also birdied the 8th, while DeCrow had 14 pars in the round.
Tomorrow’s match play begins at 11 a.m. IC needs to win just one match to secure the Cortaca Cup.
