FARMINGTON, Utah – Montana State women’s golf was picked to finish third in a poll of the Big Sky Conference’s coaches, the league office announced on Thursday.
The third-place prediction is the highest in the history of the program.
“Receiving the highest coaches’ poll ranking since I have been coaching is a significant achievement and a testament to the hard work and dedication of the players,” head coach Brittany Basye said. “It’s a good start to the spring season, and we are excited to get back out on the golf course to compete.”
Sacramento State was selected as the favorite in the coaches’ poll. The Hornets have won four of the last five Big Sky titles, with Northern Arizona breaking up the streak with a win in 2022. The Lumberjacks were picked to finish second by the coaches.
Montana State is coming off a fantastic fall in which they finished in the top-four at their final three tournaments, a first for the team since at least 2011.
Lauren Greeny broke the school record for low round on September 23 at the Eagle Invitational, shooting a 66 across the final 18 holes to earn her first career victory and Big Sky Golfer of the Week honor.
Just a week later, Becca Tschetter won the Diane Thomason Invitational in Iowa City in her debut tournament as a Bobcat. After having to sit out the first two competitions of the year due to NCAA rules, Tschetter shot a 3-over par 219 (73-73-73) to beat the field by three strokes and get her own Big Sky Golfer of the Week accolade.
Greeny (1), Tschetter (1), and Scarlet Weidig (4) have combined for six tournament victories since 2022.
The Bobcats’ spring gets started with Mountain Classic Match Play in Palm Desert, California, on Feb. 10-12.
The 2025 Big Sky Championships are slated for April 14-16 in Litchfield Park, Arizona.
