GLEN COVE, N.Y. – The Fordham golf team began play at the Nassau Intercollegiate on Monday, sitting in a tie for ninth out of 13 teams after 36 holes at Nassau Country Club.
Oklahoma Christian leads the field after two rounds with a team score of 10 over, seven shots clear of Rhode Island in second and nine shots ahead of Boston College in third. Oklahoma Christian’s Oskari Nikku holds a six-shot lead on the individual leaderboard after posting rounds of 69 and 65 on the par-70 track.
Freshman Liam Howard leads the Rams after 36 holes, following an opening-round 75 with an even-par round of 70 in the afternoon to grab a share of ninth place. Howard made easy work of the back nine in round two, carding four birdies on his way to a two-under 33.
Senior Jake Mrva posted rounds of 73 and 74 on Monday, good enough for a share of 24th place. Mrva also carved up the back nine in his morning round, playing a six-hole stretch in five under. In the afternoon, Mrva logged 14 pars.
Classmate Chris Konefal finished the day three shots behind Mrva in a share of 38th after rounds of 71 and 79. Konefal’s opening round was a model of consistency, carding nine pars on the inward nine after birdieing the ninth to get to one over on the day.
Tucker Silva turned in rounds of 76 and 77 to enter Tuesday in a tie for 48th.
Patrick Ginnity rounded out the Rams’ efforts on Monday with scores of 79 and 82.
The Rams will wrap the Nassau Invitational tomorrow with 18 holes beginning at 9:20 a.m.
