Last Friday, December 20th, Neil Blaney joined the Stableford gang for a little golf competition. I played with Neil, and during the round, Neil shared that around six years ago, playing with Dave Huatala, Neil scored an amazing 61 Stableford points. Neil shared that on that day, he had 16 one-putts and two chip-ins for a very good round. Great job, Neil. That may be a record for the most individual Stableford points. We’ll have to research this item. Meanwhile, last Friday, Neil and I drew each other in the Stableford partners draw, both scoring 34 Stableford points. That was good for second place, but unfortunately for us, Dave Swensen and Rob Reid tied us also, combining for 68 points. Dave had 38 and Rob 30. Coming in first place were team Scott Dietz and Jim Ellis, who scored a combined 75 points. Scott accumulated 42 points, and Jim chipped in 33 points. Scott was playing lights out that day, winning first place individual and almost shooting an eighteen-hole Carlson. A Carlson is completing eighteen holes without a double bogie. Scott only had one double bogie, which cost him his Carlson. Scott did have an S in front of his final score which indicates he played with the (S) same ball the entire eighteen holes. In fact, and this may be a record, all of us in the foursome, Butch Carlstadt, Neil Blaney, Scott, and the Golf Notes guy, all had an S on the scorecard. We all, the whole round, did not lose a single ball. That may be recorded in the Golf Hall of Fame. Second place individual was secured by the Swede, Dave Swensen, with 38 Stableford points. I, the Golf Notes guy, might have recently set a course record for hitting the most sand traps in one round. Nine. I had to hit out of nine traps in eighteen holes, six on the front nine and three on the back. Playing with Butch Carlstadt, I pleaded with him. “What’s going on, Butch? What am I doing?” Butch smiled, shook his head, and said, “I don’t know.” We’ll have to keep note of “the most traps in a round” to see what the local record may be.
I hope you got that new driver or fail-safe putter or whatever you wanted for Christmas from the Golf Santa. When you look around the Pro Shop, you will see a variety of potential golf presents. Kathy Shepley, the Pro Shop Manager, has stocked the shop with many nice items, such as sweaters, hoodies, shirts, hats, putters, and gloves. It’s all there.
