BERLIN, Conn. – The Fordham golf team used a stellar Sunday effort to jump four spots in the team standings of the Ryan Lee Memorial, finishing in a tie for ninth at Shuttle Meadow Country Club.
The Rams’ four scorers combined to shoot six over on Sunday, 14 shots better than their total score in Saturday’s opening round.
URI (-4) took home the team title with a four-under 280 while Army’s John Heckel Jr. claimed the individual title on the fourth playoff hole. Heckel and Sacred Heart’s Mike Rothberg each shot six under over the 36-hole tournament.
Jake Mrva led the way for the Rams, firing off a final-round 70 (-1) to finish in a tie for 16th place on the individual leaderboard, a 22-spot jump from yesterday.
Playing in his first collegiate tournament as an individual, freshman Patrick Ginnity closed with authority, shooting four under on his final nine to card a 70. The Fitchburg, Mass., native jumped into a tie for 32nd place, as did sophomore Felix Luetke Meyring following one-over 72 in Sunday’s final round. Luetke Meyring also played his final nine in four under.
Tucker Silva birdied three of his first seven holes on his way to a 74, three shots better than his Saturday round, to finish in a share of 60th place. Chris Konefal also posted a Sunday 74, a four-shot improvement, to tie for 66th.
Bryan Ruland enjoyed a seven-shot improvement from yesterday, finishing off the tournament with a 76.
The Rams will return to action at the SHU Fall Classic beginning on Monday, Sept. 30.
