NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. – Men’s Golf finished out their 2024 fall season strong with a third-place team finish, and Ryan Pamer captured an individual championship at the Big 5 Championship on Thursday, hosted by Villanova at Aronimink Golf Club.
The Wildcats shot 33-over 313 in 6 count 4 format on the par 70 course. The ‘Cats third place finish tied their final placement from last year. Pamer is the second VU golfer in a row to place first in this tournament. Peter Weaver placed first last year but was eliminated in a four-hole playoff. Penn captured the team title, shooting 24-over 304. This was the Quakers first appearance in the event since 2017 and first win since 2014.
“We were so happy to host at such an amazing venue,” said Head Coach James Wilkes. “Our guys really fought to put up a solid finish as conditions improved throughout the day. Very glad for Coop [Ryan Pamer] and for Penn. I know the guys are already looking forward to getting out there for match play this spring.”
VU led the field in birdies with 11, shooting six more than any other team. All six Wildcats totaled at least one. They also shot 12-over on par three holes, placing at the top of the leaderboard. Four Wildcats recorded top-20 finishes.
THE EVENT | ARONIMINK GOLF CLUB, PAR 70, 7,267 YARDS
Ryan Pamer notched his second individual championship of the fall season and his career. This is also his third top ten finish, halfway to his career high of six from the 2023-24 season. Pamer shot one-over 71, beating the runner-up by three strokes. The junior shot even par across the front nine and one over on the second half. He led the field in par threes and fives while tying for the lead on par four holes, shooting one under across the former two. He also tallied three birdies, tying for the most across the competitors.
Matt Zerfass made his third appearance in the Big 5 Championship, but first as a Wildcat on Thursday. He finished tied for 16th at 10-over 80. Zerfass finished the front nine at three over, chipping in a birdie of his own on hole five.
Nathan Marion got the day started by being the first competitor to tee off. He shot 11-over 81, including a birdie on a par four. Marion tied for 20th place, his second top-20 finish of the season.
Joshua Lavely finished even across all par three holes, including a birdie to finish at an 11-over 81 finish, tying for 20th.
Vibhav Alokam finished the first half of his freshman season, appearing in every tournament and round that the ‘Cats competed in. He concluded the fall campaign today, finishing 12-over 82, tying for 24th place. Alokam finished second among competitors, recording two birdies.
Gus Vickers shot 13-over 83 to finish tied for 27th place. He birdied each end of the front nine, including the 605-yard par five, hole nine. He tied Pamer on birdies for the day with three. Vickers shot one under across par five holes for the round.
