Respect!
Jon Jones scored the first defense of his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight title at UFC 309 tonight (Sat., Nov. 16, 2024) when he brutally stopped Stipe Miocic with a spinning back kick TKO from inside Madison Square Garden in New York City (watch highlights).
Interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall sat cageside, and UFC captured his reaction to Jones’ nasty TKO win.
Check it out below:
It wasn’t a crazy reaction, but Aspinall seemed to give his respect to Jones after being called an asshole by the champion earlier in the week.
Nevertheless, Jones told Joe Rogan after the fight that he has decided not to retire and will continue to defend his title, but he wouldn’t give any names. “Bones” did say he will sit down with UFC CEO Dana White and Hunter Campbell to decide what’s next—which means he wants a big pay bump to fight Aspinall.
While the Jones vs. Francis Ngannou mega fight unfortunately never happened, there is a chance for the UFC brass to do the right thing and make a colossal Heavyweight fight between Jones and Aspinall.
Will it happen? The ball is entirely in UFC’s court.
