SWANSEA, S.C. (WIS) – A Swansea man died while driving his golf cart on Huckabee Mill Road in Lexington County.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the man was driving a Club Car golf cart around 11 a.m. near Tickleweed Road going south. At the same time, a Ford Expedition was on the road going south.
The SUV hit the golf cart from behind, causing it to flip over, state troopers said.
Christopher Dean Hoffman, 51, died at the scene, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.
Troopers said the driver and passenger of the SUV were not injured in the crash.
According to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, golf carts can be driven on roads in South Carolina if the speed limit is posted at 35 mph or less and if its daytime.
It’s unclear what the speed limit is where the crash took place and if any charges are expected in this instance.
Both the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Lexington County Coroner’s Office are investigating the crash.
