Guidehouse, a global consulting firm with offices in Austin and Houston, is expanding into San Antonio and plans to add 1,000 jobs “in the area” over the next five years.
Landing the Guidehouse expansion didn’t require San Antonio or Bexar County to pony up any “traditional financial incentives,” said Greater:SATX CEO Jenna Saucedo-Herrera. “They selected [San Antonio] based on talent and location.”
“One thousand office jobs is one of the largest deals in the state right now,” she said. “We’re pretty excited. They’re a global company and they’re looking at expanding around the world.”
Guidehouse had already posted a handful of San Antonio-based jobs on its website on Tuesday, just hours after the announcement.
Saucedo-Herrera said San Antonio “made sense to them from, I believe, a business development and market perspective, and also from a workforce perspective.”
She said the progress San Antonio is making in educational attainment is now a selling point for employers.
“We have increased our educational attainment six percentage points in the last five years, and that’s faster than any of our peer metros,” she said, while acknowledging “we still have work to do.”
She said she had many conversations with Guidehouse executives about access to talent, especially in the financial sector, IT and administration, and Greater:SATX will “continue to support them from a workforce perspective,” potentially aligning the company with Ready to Work and other state-level job growth programs.
In addition to investments in people, she said investments in “place” also played a role in landing Guidehouse, including recent routes and capacity additions at San Antonio International Airport. Guidehouse is headquartered in Washington, D.C., “so that DCA nonstop route is important to them,” she said, as is the new nonstop to Boston.
Guidehouse will move into 9903 Westover Pl. in far west San Antonio; that location will serve as a regional operations hub for the firm to provide advisory, digital, corporate and managed services throughout Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and New Mexico, the company announced via press release on Tuesday.
“Our expansion into San Antonio — an industry hub for cybersecurity, financial services, health and life sciences, intelligence, defense and security — reflects our commitment to supporting clients in this dynamic market,” said Scott McIntyre, Guidehouse CEO. “We look forward to working in close proximity to our many clients and colleagues, becoming part of the greater San Antonio community, and providing local opportunities for our expanding network of Texas-based employees and trading partners.”
Guidehouse is a portfolio company of Bain Capital, which acquired Guidehouse in late 2023 for $5.3 billion from Veritas Capital, which owned the company for five years. Guidehouse has grown through its own acquisitions, and today employs more than 17,000 people in 55 locations around the world.
The San Antonio expansion “marks a significant milestone in the firm’s growth strategy as it continues to extend its reach and deliver innovative solutions to the market,” stated the press release.
