MINNEAPOLIS – A pair of Minnewaska Lakers finished as one of the best doubles teams at the MSHSL Class A State Tournament at the Reed Sweatt Tennis Center in Minneapolis on Oct. 24-25, 2024.
Junior Alia Randt and senior Megan Thorfinnson competed as a duo in the tournament and went 2-2 to finish fourth.
Randt/Thorfinnson started off the tournament strong with a 6-1, 6-1 win on Thursday morning over Sophia Nerison/Livia Tennessen. Randt/Thorfinnson then defeated Regan Brass/Louisa Cohen of the Blake School, 7-5, 6-2, on Thursday afternoon.
Ally Mersman and Madison Ward of Maple River defeated Randt/Thorfinnson 7-5, 6-0 in the state semifinals on Friday morning.
Lake City’s duo of Therese Bauer and Rylee Thieren defeated Randt/Thorfinnson in the third-place match on Friday 6-4, 7-6 (7).
Maple River’s Macy Sohre/Kelsey Jaeger defeated their teammates, Mersman and Ward, to win the MSHSL Class A doubles state title.
Osakis junior Leah Maddock wrapped up her junior season with a 1-1 finish at the MSHSL Class A Individual State Tournament.
Maddock defeated Keyana Haler of Saint James 6-2, 6-4, on Thursday in the first round of the state tournament.
Maddock was defeated by Litchfield’s Isla Dille 6-1, 7-6 (4) in the second round of the state tournament on Thursday.
“Leah had a great season, finishing 27-2 and advancing to the state quarterfinals as the No. 5 seed,” Osakis head coach Ryan Maddock said. “Her only two losses were to Isla. Leah did have a victory over her earlier this year. Both Leah and Isla have improved greatly from a year ago and have become two of the top Class A players in the state. They will both return to their teams next year.”
Leah Maddock finished the season with a 27-2 record and made it to the individual state tournament for the fourth time.
Minnehaha Academy’s Chloe Alley defeated The Blake School’s Fatemeh Vang to win the Class A singles state title.
