ROOSEVELT, Duchesne County — A 13-year-old girl died from injuries after she fell out of a golf cart on July 3, according to the Roosevelt City Police Department.
“Several children,” aged 11, 12, and 13, were reportedly driving down the road in a golf cart near Golf Course Drive and Areva Road. The 12-year-old driver made a sharp turn, and the 13-year-old girl fell out of the golf cart, according to a release.
The girl was transported to a hospital, and later died “as a result of the injuries that she sustained during her fall.”
RCPD said the girl was from Texas with family ties in Roosevelt.
Following this incident, the RCPD reported it will be giving more attention to the issue of unlicensed minors driving motor vehicles on city streets. The release said Roosevelt City Police Chief Mark J. Watkins has instructed officers to “stop any children engaged in this behavior.”
The release said that parents who allow their children to drive motor vehicles may be cited, and the vehicles may be impounded.
“We are all deeply saddened by her loss and this senseless accident,” the release said.
