India’s young sensation, Arshdeep Singh has revealed the importance of red-ball format in improving his overall skills as a bowler. Singh was India’s leading wicket-taker at the recent T20 World Cup 2024, being the frontline pacer alongside Jasprit Bumrah.
The 25-year-old has been a mainstay in India’s T20I setup, ever since his debut in July 2022. Making over 50 appearances in the shortest format, Arshdeep has made the spot his own, delivering at all fronts. He was India’s best bowler in the first T20I against Bangladesh, with figures of 3/15 in Gwalior.
Ahead of India’s second T20I against the Bangla Tigers. the Punjab-born cricketer commented on the importance of red-ball cricket for a pacer to thrive across formats.

Arshdeep stated that red-ball cricket teaches patience to the bowlers, which is an important aspect for bowlers in the longest format. Thus, playing the shorter formats seem easier after having a taste of red-ball cricket.
Speaking to Indian Express, the fast bowler said, “T20 gets easier after playing red ball. Red ball teaches you patience, here (in T20s) you don’t need patience, you have to think about what a batter can do. I enjoy that we can see how quickly you can adapt to the conditions, ground dimensions and format.”

He added, “My life mantra is to enjoy the present. I don’t bother much about the future too much. Let others take the tension. I want to do my best in all the formats wherever I get the chance.”
