Virginia Tech has never beaten Georgia women’s basketball (5-4). But this year, they just might.

The Lady Bulldogs have a young team, counting on two seniors and several freshmen to carry the load that the graduating class of 2024 left behind.

Their leading scorer, Mia Woolfolk, has been out since game one, where she injured her foot it appears, though details and timeline for return were not specified. Their second leading scorer, Trinity Turner, is averaging 13 points per game, but shooting 31.9-percent from the field. She’s completed 45 of 141 attempts from the field.

De’Mauri Flournoy and Asia Avinger round out the top four averaging 11.7 and 10.3 points per game respectively. Both of their consistencies have gotten better from last year, but there’s still something not clicking, and it’s probably to do with the age (and simultaneously experience) gap.

Virginia Tech has four consistent scorers by the looks of their stats — they’ve only lost to Big Ten teams so far in Iowa and Michigan.

Matilda Ekh, who hails from a Big Ten team in Michigan State and has been with the Hokies since 2023, averages 11.4 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.

Then there’s Carleigh Wenzel and Rose Micheaux. Wenzel averages 14.5 points per game and Micheaux averages 13.9 to lead the Hokies to their 6-2 record. Carys Baker rounds out the top four with an average of 9.9 points per game.

It’ll be a battle in Stegeman Coliseum. But who will be crowned winner is still to be determined, obviously.
