Georgia quarterback Carson Beck injured his UCL in his right elbow during the SEC championship game earlier this month. Sources tell On3 that Beck is not expected to play in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals.
The Bulldogs are slated to play the winner of Notre Dame and Indiana in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1. Beck was not at practice again on Thursday, as On3’s DawgsHQ reported. The quarterback has not been with the Georgia team since it returned to practice and workouts late last week.
A timetable for a return is still unclear. A UCL elbow injury is a tear or damage to the ligament on the inner side of the elbow that connects the upper arm to the forearm. Sources tell On3 that Beck continues to seek opinions on his injury.
Beck missed the entire second half of the SEC title game win over Texas but re-entered for the game’s final play after backup Gunner Stockton took a big hit. Beck handed the ball off to Trevor Etienne for the walk-off touchdown in overtime. Sources said Beck talked about not having a good grip on the ball after the game.
Stockton will get the start with Beck expected to miss the Sugar Bowl.
Carson Beck has thrown for 3,485 yards this season, as Georgia holds the No. 2 seed in the College Football Playoff. The Bulldogs are 11-2 on the season, capturing their second SEC title since 2022. He’s thrown for 7,912 yards and 58 touchdowns in his Georgia career.
“Tough deal for him in terms of not being able to go out there and finish in the second half,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart previously said. “He’s also excited for his teammates and happy that it ended the way it did and ironically he got to be on the field for that.”
