Georgia’s Mike White speaks to reporters and analyzes the team’s latest victory over No. 17 Oklahoma.
Georgia basketball takes the floor as a top 25 team for the first time in 14 years on Wednesday night.
The No. 23 Bulldogs get a tough test having to play a No. 6 Tennessee team that is coming off a road trip that included a 30-point loss at Florida and a close win at Texas.
It’s a big game for Knoxville native Blue Cain. The Bulldogs’ sophomore guard will play his first game in his hometown with the Bulldogs.
“It’s going to be exciting to be in front of my friends and family,” said Cain, who didn’t consider himself a Vols fan growing up and wasn’t recruited by Tennessee.
This is sort of hard to believe, but this will be the first time these teams play as ranked opponents ever in the AP rankings, according to Tennessee. The teams have played 161 times previously.
“Incredibly ready for just a fight from the tip,” Georgia coach Mike White said Monday on his radio show. “Tennessee is as sound defensively as any team in the country. They fight for every inch on the court, defend screens, actions and ball screens at a high level, switch coverages. They’re going to be very physical on the interior.”
Tennessee is 13-1 against ranked opponents at home in its last 14 games.
North Florida guard transfer Chaz Lanier is second in the SEC at 19 points per game and is fifth nationally in 3-pointers per game with 3.7.
Lanier was held to 10 points each of the last two games. He shot 3 of 16 against Florida and 3 of 11 against Texas, getting pulled 11 seconds into the second half when he threw the ball away.
Lanier scored 16 and made 4 of 8 on 3s in a 78-60 loss at Georgia last season.
