Gautam Gambhir has reportedly told the BCCI review meeting that the Mumbai batter leaked some information to media during the BGT.

Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir reportedly blames youngster Sarfaraz Khan for leaking the information from the Indian dressing room during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Khan didn’t play a single Test in the series, despite scoring a 150 in the previous series — the home white-wash against New Zealand.

According to News24 Sports, Gambhir made the accusation in the BCCI’s review meeting of the Australia tour in Mumbai. He said Khan leaked the bit about the head coach’s angry speech to the team after India’s big defeat in the fourth Test of the series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

The report also said Gambhir’s anger might also hamper the player’s career till he’s in charge.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of the Sydney Test, Gambhir had highlighted the value of honesty and bashed the reports.

“Debates between coach and player should remain in the dressing room. Stern words. They were just reports, not truth,” Gambhir said.

“Indian cricket will be in safe hands till honest people stay in the dressing room. The only thing that keeps you in the dressing room is performance. There were honest words and honesty is important. There is only one tendency and there is only one discussion – it’s the team’s first ideology that matters. You need to play what the team needs. You can still play your natural game in a team sport – but if the team needs you – you need to play in a certain way,” the head coach said.

After the Sydney Test, The Indian Express had reported that Gambhir lashed out at the team saying, ‘Bahut ho gaya’ (Enough is enough), apparently miffed at the batters not playing according to the situation and trying to play their ‘natural game’ instead of following the plans made in the dressing room.

That report had said the Indian dressing room’s environment was for from ideal, with a lot of characters at play, creating chaos.

It also started a series of dressing room leaks in the coming days, which only gained more traction as India lost in Sydney, too, conceding the series 3-1. Gambhir and skipper Rohit Sharma are still under pressure for India’s performances in the last six months.

The team’s next assignment is a white-ball series against England followed by the 2025 Champions Trophy.
