SEASIDE, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Golf team wrapped up their final tournament of the fall season as they went to the Leadership and Golf Collegiate hosted by St. Mary’s and Seattle. At the end of three rounds, the Gauchos finished in 13th with Nick Waldock, Jackson Turner, Ryan Gay, Zekun Fang and Matt Monheim in the lineup.
“This crew didn’t have the best showing this week,” said Head Coach Chris Massoletti. “This tough course with tricky pins exposed our lack of discipline in shot selection. We made enough birdies and eagles to have a good week but made way too many bad bogeys and doubles to be competitive.”
The Gauchos competed against a tough field of 14 teams at the Bayonet Club in Seaside, California. The best performance for the team came from Gay, who concluded the tournament tied for 38th. He had his best performance during the third round when he shot a 71, which helped him move up 13 spots in the standings. Waldock was the next-best performer for the Gauchos as he went +10 across three rounds.
Along with the team, Dylan Ma competed as an individual for the Blue and Gold. He wrapped up the tournament by going three-over, earning his best score in the second round as he shot a 70.
The University of the Pacific finished as the top team over these three rounds as they went -9 as a team. They also had the individual winner in Carlos Astiazaran, who concluded his time in Seaside going eight-under.
This was the final tournament of the Gauchos’ fall season. They will continue to train until their next tournament in February when they head to the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Arizona.
