BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – (KBAK/KBFX) — Labor Day weekend kicks off for some travelers as early as today, that means traffic could begin as early as 11 a.m.
For those looking to hit the road there are some things to keep in mind. According to Gianella Ghiglino a AAA spokes person, historic, record breaking travel this summer is a trend that is expected to stick around this holiday weekend.
“We’re seeing a 9% increase in travel and prices are slightly lower, about 2% lower this labor day weekend than they were in 2020,” said Ghiglino.
Gas is also down about 30 cents since 2023, Ghiglino said this could be the reason for the increase in travel compared to last year.
If you are looking to hit the road today, AAA suggests avoiding travel between 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. For the rest of the weekend’s travel recommendations check out this article from AAA.
