Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has made the shocking revelation that their white-ball head coach Gary Kirsten breached his contract. Notably, Kirsten recently resigned from his position ahead of their white-ball tour to Australia.
The former South Africa cricketer resigned from his post within six months of assuming his role in April earlier this year. However, days after his resignation, Naqvi revealed that Kirsten broke his contract by making some breaches. The PCB chairman also mentioned that they will have a new white ball coach for the Zimbabwe tour.
“He (Kirsten) broke his contract with the PCB and made some breaches. He ended the contract with us. We will have a new white ball head coach by the end of this month because Jason Gillispie has only agreed to manage the team in Australia for the white ball matches on an interim basis. He is more focussed on his role as red ball head coach. The team will have a new white ball coach for the Zimbabwe tour,” Naqvi told the media.
The PCB hasn’t given any reasoning behind Kirsten’s sudden resignation however according to report in PTI, sources have confirmed that it was because Kirsten was not involved when the Board announced the squads for the Australia and Zimbabwe tours and the new captain of the white ball format on Sunday.
The sources further claimed that Kirsten had breached some clauses of his contract by not spending enough time in Pakistan and insisting on having a full foreign coaching support staff.
As per the report, Naqvi wanted senior selector Aaqib Javed to take over the reains from Kirsten. However, Javed isn’t interested in the role and wants to work on development of players and grooming of young talent at the National Cricket Academy.
Meanwhile, Naqvi also spoke on the matter of Fakhar Zaman who’s been given a show cause notice by the board for his post on social media site X where he slammed the board’s decision of resting Babar Azam for the last two Tests vs England. As a result, he lost his central contract and wasn’t named in the squads for the tour of Australia and Zimbabwe.
“The issue of the show cause notice will be handled by a special committee of the board while the selectors have authority over selection matters. I don’t interfere in the selectors and coaches work,” Naqvi added.
