ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon women’s golf team moved into first place in the opening round of its fall tournament, the Michael Corbett Fall Classic, on Monday at Whispering Woods Golf Club.
The Golden Knights carded a 20-over 308 total to move into first place against seven other teams on their home course. Franklin Pierce was in second place at 313. The tournament is named after former Gannon coach and athletic director Michael Corbett, who passed away in 2003.
Gannon was led by senior Andrea Martinez (Tarragona, Spain/Col·legi Vedruna Sagrat Cor), who shot a 3-over-par 75 to move into second place among 46 players in the individual standings. She carded three birdies on the front nine on the way to an even-par 36.
Kesinee Prukmathakul of Franklin Pierce took the first-round lead with an even-par 72.
Gannon sophomore Cloe Mateo (Sabadell, Spain/Montcau la Mola) is in third place after shooting a 4-over 76. She collected one birdie on each side on the way to posting a 37-39.
Junior Emily Donahue (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) was tied for fifth place with a 6-over 78. She had one birdie and 11 pars. Gannon freshman Alexandria LeCureux (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) continued her fine play by moving into eighth place with a 79. She had one birdie and 12 pars. Senior Ditte Petersen (Dianalund, Denmark/Sorø Akademi Skole) rounded out Gannon’s A Team lineup with a round of 82.
For Gannon’s B Team, freshman Gunnhildur Gunnarasdottir was tied for eighth with LeCureux after shooting a 79. Her efforts helped the B Team move into sixth place
Victoria Colmenares (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/ICL Academy) closed the first round in 18th place with an 84.
