FINDLAY, Ohio – The Gannon women’s golf team set a program scoring record Tuesday while placing eighth against highly talented competition in the William Beall Fall Classic.
Director of Golf Scott Stano‘s Golden Knights finished with a 54-hole team total of 913, which was five shots better than the program record of 918 that Gannon set in the 2023 William Beall Fall Classic.
Here’s a remarkable fact about Gannon’s record-breaking tournament: The top four players in Gannon’s lineup each shot rounds in the 70s in all three rounds on the Findlay Country Club course. In other words, the top four Knights posted 12 scores in the 70s in 12 rounds.
Host Findlay won the 18-team tournament with a 6-over-par 870 total, followed by Missouri-St. Louis (882), Lynn (897), and Tiffin (899).
Freshman Alexandria LeCureux (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) led Gannon with a 9-over 225 (75-73-77) as she placed 18th. Senior Ditte Petersen (Dianalund, Denmark/Sorø Akademi Skole) was one stroke behind at 10-over 226 (72-75-79) while placing 19th.
Sophomore Cloe Mateo (Sabadell, Spain/Montcau la Mola) had the low round of the day for Gannon on Tuesday as she carded a 1-over 73. She moved up 24 spots in the individual standings to place 32nd with a 14-over 230 (78-79-73).
Senior Andrea Martinez (Tarragona, Spain/Col·legi Vedruna Sagrat Cor) finished 38th at 16-over 232 (76-79-77) to round out Gannon’s team scoring.
Gannon junior Emily Donahue (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) closed with a 243 (81-79-83).
What’s ahead:
Gannon will host the Michael Corbett Fall Classic on Oct. 7-8 at Whispering Woods Golf Club. GU’s B Team will play in the Mercyhurst Fall Invitational on Saturday at Lake View Country Club.
