CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Gannon men’s golf team entered the final round of the UC Golden Eagle Fall Invitational in third place, and that’s where the Golden Knights ended up in the standings on Tuesday.
Four GU players shot rounds of 72 or better in the third round as Gannon finished with a 17-over-par 869 total for 54 holes at Edgewood Country Club. Host Charleston won the title among 17 teams with a 3-under 849 total, while IUP placed second at 6-over 858.
Gannon received strong efforts from several golfers on Tuesday as Elijah Ruppert (Fleetwood, Pa./Brandywine Heights) and Kyle Westfall (Erie, Pa./Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy (Erie)) shot 1-under-par 70s, and Michael Wareham (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) and Mattia Parrini (Verolengo, Italy/Verolengo) carded 1-over 72s.
Parrino and teammate Giovanni Delorenzi (Reggio Emilia, Italy/International School of Modena) tied for 13th in the individual standings to lead Gannon. Parrini recorded rounds of 72, 73, and 72, on his way to a 4-over 217. Delorenzi shot a 76 Tuesday after carding Gannon’s low round of the tournament with a 66 in the second round on Monday. He shot a 75 in Monday’s first round.
Playing as an individual, Westfall shot a 1-under 70 on Tuesday to finish with a 5-over 218 total, good for 17th place.
Gannon’s lineup was rounded out by Rasmus Seppanen (Bastad, Sweden/Akademi Bastad Gymnasium) (21st place, 6-over 219), Ruppert (27th, 8-over 221), and Wareham (38th, 10-over 223). Playing as an individual, Jacob Wolak (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock Area) finished at 16-over 229.
The Golden Knights will return to course on Sept 16-17 when they compete in the B&R Investments Bulldog Fall Classic in Big Rapids, Mich.
