ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – It has been said that the things that are for us will find their way to us.
For Morris Robinson, singing was the calling. Football was part of the journey. He became a three-time All-American offensive lineman in college.
“Football allowed me to be myself. I was always very gifted as a musician and that was kind of the nerdy thing to do/ So going out on the football field was kind of a right of passage to prove to myself and to my fellow teammates, the guys I went to church with that I was indeed a tough guy,” said Robinson.
Eventually, Robinson circled back to a passion that had never gone away.
“I feel most comfortable when I am onstage just acting and communicating through music,” said Robinson.
He is a decorated performer. Outside of his Grammy, he has performed all over the world and in the States at places like the MET and Los Angeles Philharmonic.
“I want the audience to be moved. I want them to have a musical experience, an emotional experience, I want them to enjoy the drama and the music combined,” said Robinson.
Morris is preparing for The Atlanta Opera’s production of “Macbeth.”
“I feel as though I am an ambassador for the art form. I don’t come packaged as one would think an opera singer would come packaged but I do think I have a message to deliver and my responsibility to continue to preach the gospel if you will, of this art form, as many times as I can,” said Robinson.
