Newgrange, who joined the main invite list this week for the Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational, tuned up for the race Friday at Palm Meadows.
The 6-year-old son of Violence breezed five furlongs at Palm Meadows for trainer Phil d’Amato, 10th fastest of 13 at the distance.
Newgrange opened 2024 with a win in the San Pasqual (G2) but then finished out of the money in the Santa Anita Handicap (G1) and the San Diego Handicap (G2). The latter, on July 27, was his most recent start.
This was his second work at Palm Meadows. He breezed four furlongs in a bullet 47.0 seconds last week.
Skippylongstocking, also probable for the Pegasus World Cup, breezed four furlongs in 49.35 seconds at Palm Meadows for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. Winner of two graded stakes last year, he was sixth in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile in his most recent start.
Honor Marie returned to the work tab for the first time since finishing eighth in the Travers (G1). The Honor Code colt, who was eighth in the Kentucky Derby and fourth in the Belmont Stakes last year, breezed three furlongs in 36.0 seconds at Fair Grounds, fastest of 25 at the distance.
