Fresno State basketball players allegedly bet on own games this season | Report

Fresno State and the NCAA are investigating the Bulldogs’ men’s basketball team after two players allegedly bet on games in which they played this season, ESPN reported Friday.
ESPN reported that forward Mykell Robinson and others were betting on Fresno State games in which he, and others, played in. ESPN, citing sources, added some bets were on the under on his points and rebounds totals. Citing an industry source, ESPN reported at least one major sportsbook received increased betting interest on Robinson’s props this season.
Robinson was removed from the roster after playing his final game on Jan. 11.
Fresno State senior guard Jalen Weaver told ESPN he was dismissed from the team after betting $50 he would score more than 11 points against New Mexico on Dec. 31. He scored 13 points in a 103-89 defeat.
He told ESPN he plans to enter the transfer portal after the season.
“I just made a bad decision, and I shouldn’t even have gotten involved with that,” Weaver told ESPN. “Now, I’m obviously paying for it,” he said. “I bet on a game I played in, but I never tried to sabotage the season. I never bet on us to lose, never bet my unders.”
Another guard, Zaon Collins, was held out of competition until further notice along with Weaver last Saturday, due to the originally reported potential ties to sports betting. He remains on the roster, but reportedly was sports betting on professional games, according to ESPN.
Fresno State stated last Saturday that Weaver and Collins were being withheld from competition due to an ineligibility issue. The school declined to comment to ESPN.
Sports betting in any form is prohibited by the NCAA, with those betting on their own games risking a permanent ban from competition.
The Bulldogs are 5-23 this season and are without three of their top scorers in 2024-25. Weaver, Collins and Robinson were averaging 12.5, 12 and 10.3 points per game this season, respectively.
