Four-star point guard Chance Mallory is visiting Tennessee basketball from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2, 247sports’ Dushawn London first reported and a source confirmed to RTI on Friday afternoon.
Mallory is a former Virginia commit who backed off his commitment to the Cavaliers after Tony Bennett announced his retirement earlier this fall.
The 5-foot-9 point guard ranks as a four-star recruit and the No. 53 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. Mallory also ranks as the No. 9 point guard and the No. 2 player in the state of Virginia in the 2025 recruiting cycle.
Tennessee has long recruited Mallory even before he committed to play for Tony Bennett and Virginia. Mallory’s trip to Knoxville will be his third during his recruitment. He visited for the Kentucky basketball game last March and again in December when his high school, St. Anne’s-Belfield School, played in a Christmas tournament at Knoxville Catholic.
Mallory is also visiting Vanderbilt in February after he visits Tennessee. Maryland is in the mix for the point guard and Mallory has ties to the Terrapins, playing for an Under Armor AAU team based out of Baltimore. Virginia continues to recruit the local point guard as they search for their new head coach.
This is an incredibly important recruiting class for Rick Barnes and Tennessee basketball due to the high number of scholarships that they have available. The Vols have eight scholarships to work with in the 2025 recruiting cycle. They started the season with two scholarship spots unfilled. Cam Carr leaving the program made it three for the spring semester.
Along with Mallory, Tennessee is recruiting three-star point guard Zyree Collins who officially visited for the Arkansas game earlier this month.
Barnes and his staff continue to pursue five-star guard Brayden Burries, who officially visited for the Mississippi State game, and five-star forward Nate Ament.
