Ahead of the Indian Wells Masters four players have pulled out and have since been replaced.
The first ATP Tour Masters 1000 event of the season is just around the corner and the players are aiming to make a big impression during the North American hard court swing.
The field has changed as some players are no longer able to participate in the tournament known as the ‘fifth Grand Slam’ to many fans.
One of those who will be in the draw has been one of the standout players of 2025 so far, and will be set for his main draw Masters 1000 debut.
Ahead of the Indian Wells Masters, four players have been confirmed to no longer be participating.
One of those is America’s Reilly Opelka, who will miss out on the chance to play on home soil, and Yoshihito Nishioka will now also be absent.
Thanasi Kokkinakis has just undergone surgery to repair a pectoral injury and therefore he will be out of action for some time, and Nicolas Jarry is also no longer in the Indian Wells draw.
Their replacements are Britain’s Jacob Fearnley, Chris O’Connell, Dusan Lajovic and American teenager Learner Tien.
The 19-year-old was initially given a wildcard to enter the Indian Wells draw, but he has now secured his place there on merit, meaning the wildcard he was given can now be offered to somebody else.
Learner Tien has been one of the standout names in 2025 so far.
He has built on his run to the Next Gen ATP Finals championship match, where he lost to Joao Fonseca.
Since then he reached the last 16 of the Australian Open and progressed to the quarter-finals of the Mexican Open.
The youngster is feeling very confident in his game and his consistency and ability to create acute angles as a left-handed player has been very effective for him so far.
He has already secured victories over Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev in 2025 and Tien will be looking to do the same at Indian Wells.
