The Wolverine shares their Michigan Football superlatives
NFL teams had to cut down their rosters to 53 players Tuesday afternoon. After the deadline, Michigan Wolverines football is well-represented across the league, with 49 players who spent time in Ann Arbor making rosters, including six who are currently on injured reserve (Bengals running back Chris Evans, Texans offensive lineman LaDarius Henderson, Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy, Colts linebacker Cameron McGrone, Bengals punter Brad Robbins and Steelers linebacker Julius Welschof).
This April, Michigan set its program record and led all college programs at the draft with 13 selections. Eleven of those players who were taken made NFL rosters to start the season. Seventh-round wide receiver Cornelius Johnson was released by the Los Angeles Chargers, and seventh-round linebacker Michael Barrett was let go by the Seattle Seahawks.
Two Michigan rookies, though, made NFL rosters in Los Angeles Rams cornerback Josh Wallace and New York Jets EDGE Braiden McGregor.
Numerous former Michigan players who were in training camps beyond just the rookies were cut, as well. Here’s that list:
Cut: Wide receiver Daylen Baldwin (Falcons), offensive lineman Andrew Stueber, defensive end Luiji Vilain (Panthers), defensive tackle Michael Dwumfour (Bears), tight end Sean McKeon (Lions), wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones (Lions), cornerback Gemon Green (Packers), linebacker Khaleke Hudson (Saints), offensive lineman Jalen Mayfield (Giants), cornerback David Long Jr. (Giants), offensive lineman Drake Nugent (49ers), linebacker Michael Barrett (Seahawks), linebacker Josh Ross (Ravens), cornerback Vincent Gray (Browns), tight end Zach Gentry (Raiders), wide receiver Cornelius Johnson (Chargers), offensive lineman Karsen Barnhart (Chargers), defensive tackle Christopher Hinton (Chargers), fullback Ben Mason (Chargers), offensive lineman Ryan Hayes (Dolphins), running back Hassan Haskins (Titans), offensive lineman Chuck Filiaga (Vikings).
While Haskins was waived by Tennessee, he was picked up on waivers by former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh and the Los Angeles Chargers. That makes 50 former Michigan players on teams to start the year.
