The mini golf course at Creekmore Park will get a facelift thanks to volunteers ahead of its season-opening for Spring Break.
A local Eagle Scout troop will replace the borders on the north course and fabricate new course obstacles.
ID Logistics approached the Parks and Recreation Department to do a community service project. The project involves replacing the border on the south course and new course obstacles, painting the concession building, and repairing or replacing the hole numbers. The department supplies the materials to replace the borders, so ID Logistics will provide the labor.
Sara Deuster, director of Parks and Recreation, expects the work to be completed by April 5, but the park will be open during Spring Break (March 24-28).
During the Fort Smith Parks and Recreation meeting on Feb. 12, Deuster updated the Parks Commission on recent work at the other parks.
The equipment for the inclusion playground at Carol Ann Cross Park is expected to arrive by late February, be installed in March, and be completed by early May. Signals for the Maybranch Greenway will be in place by March.
The Creekmore Park Bathhouse and Diving Well are being reconstructed, and Deuster expects it to be open this summer. The project also includes 18 new parking spaces and a bus lane to make it easier for schools to drop off students for practice or competition.
With all the recent renovations at Creekmore in 2024 and the pool reconstruction, the Parks Department missed celebrating Creekmore’s 75th anniversary last year. However, plans are underway to commemorate the anniversary this year once the current work at the park is completed.
