Following a Rookie All-NBA campaign last year, former South Carolina basketball star GG Jackson hasn’t played in the NBA so far this season. The Columbia native injured his foot during the offseason and has been working his way back ever since. About two weeks ago, Jackson began a rehab assignment with the G League Memphis Hustle. However, it appears that his tune-up time is over.
On Sunday, the Memphis Grizzlies announced that the organization was recalling Jackson to the big club.

Jackson rejoins a Memphis Grizzlies team that is in third place in the NBA’s Western Conference. At 27-15 this year, the Grizz already have matched their win total from last season when injuries decimated the roster. With Jackson playing alongside stars Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson, Jr., Memphis is an NBA Finals contender.
Jackson’s Grizzlies will play on Monday night against the Minnesota Timberwolves (the game will be broadcast on TNT and truTV at 2:30 p.m.), but it is unclear if he will make his season debut. Memphis starts a four-game homestand on Monday, so if Jackson doesn’t see the floor against the ‘Wolves, he likely will play before the Grizzlies hit the road again at the end of the month.
Last year, during his All-Rookie season, Jackson averaged 14.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. That included 20.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists three 3-pointers per game as a starter down the stretch.
