A former No.1 overall prospect is apparently on the move again.

Boise State quarterback Malachi Nelson, ESPN’s top ranked player in the class of 2023, intends to enter the transfer portal for the second time, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported on Thursday.

Nelson began his college career at USC in 2023 with many projecting him to succeed Heisman winner Caleb Williams, but head coach Lincoln Riley instead went with the more experienced Miller Moss and Nelson took just four snaps as a freshman.

He transferred to Boise State in December 2023, but didn’t get on the field there, either.

Nelson appeared in just three games behind starter Maddux Madsen, throwing for 128 yards and an interception. He has three years of eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound passer is a former five-star recruit who had long list of high-profile programs vying for his services out of high school. He ultimately chose USC over Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan and Notre Dame, among others.

Nelson threw for 2,898 yards and 35 touchdowns in his senior season at California’s Los Alamitos High School and was the back-to-back California Gatorade Player of the Year.
