Former NBA big man Roy Hibbert recently posted on his YouTube channel a breakdown of Portland Trail Blazers rookie center Donovan Clingan’s game. And boy, does Hibbert like what he sees!
“[Clingan] is well on his way. [He] is way better than when I was a rookie,” Hibbert said in the video. He praised the 7-foot-2 Clingan for his athletic ability, strong hands, and good instincts to chase down and block shots.
Clingan was drafted by Portland with the No. 7 pick in this year’s draft. In 19 appearances, he is averaging 6.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks (first among rookies and tied for third-best in the NBA).
Hibbert, on the other hand, was drafted No. 17 overall in the 2008 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers. He averaged 10 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks over his 11-year professional career, while making two All-Star appearances. In 2012, the Blazers offered Hibbert a four-year, $58-million max contract, but the Pacers decided to match the offer. As a result, Hibbert never played a single minute in a Blazers uniform.
Fans, what do you think? Is Roy Hibbert realistic with what he says? Will Donovan Clingan equal or exceed the impact Hibbert made during his playing days? Let us know in the comments section below!
