The Philadelphia 76ers recently won their fourth game of the season, putting their record at 4-14. A win is a win, but it still puts them as the second-worst team in the Eastern Conference and NBA.
So much has come out about the Sixers following a pretty abysmal start. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported a tense locker room meeting, and it’s now come out that Joel Embiid wants to know who the leak is, per Jake Fischer.
Former NBA All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins called out Embiid’s antics on Run it Back, urging the former MVP to get his priorities in order.
“I think Joel’s focus is in the wrong place,” Cousins said. “[Expletive] who the rat is right now. Your team is struggling. Y’all look horrible this season. It’s a lot of negativity coming your way from the media, from the organization, from your teammates. It’s time to right the ship. Let’s get back to the foundation, which is playing basketball. Go lock in. Go win some games.”
Embiid has shown up for a few games, but when he has, he has not looked like himself. His lackluster play casts further doubt on where the Sixers’ season is going.
As badly as things have gone for the Sixers thus far, there’s still plenty of season left. Their win over the Detroit Pistons may not be what turns their season around, but it’s a start.
Cousins is right that the Sixers must lick their wounds and move forward as a unit from here. The past is the past, and they can only focus on the future. Just because the season hasn’t started as they wanted doesn’t mean it’s over.
Some of their best players are coming back healthy, and as long as Embiid returns soon with a clean slate of health, they can work their way back.
Part of doing that is letting go of what happened behind the scenes.
