Former Lady Vols great Chamique Holdsclaw to be inducted into Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame

Chamique Holdsclaw is being sent to the hall.

The former Lady Vols basketball player was informed via phone call Tuesday by former coach Holly Warlick that she will be inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame in a ceremony July 19 at the Omni Nashville.

Holdsclaw helped lead Tennessee to three straight NCAA national titles from 1996 to 1998 under legendary coach Pat Summitt. The four-time All-American holds program records for career rebounds and points and twice was named national player of the year, SEC player of the year and NCAA tournament most outstanding player.

She averaged 20.4 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 148 career games at Tennessee.

Holdsclaw was selected first overall by the Washington Mystics in the 1999 WNBA Draft and earned rookie of the year honors in addition to being a six-time All-Star. She played 10 seasons, including with the Los Angeles Sparks, Atlanta Dream and San Antonio Stars.

Holdsclaw, who played at Christ the King High School and is from Queens, already is in the NYC Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.

“Chamique Holdsclaw is one of the greatest players to ever wear the Lady Vols uniform, and her impact on the game of basketball continues to be felt,” executive director of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Brad Willis said on the organization’s web site. “She helped define an era of dominance for Tennessee women’s basketball, and we are honored to welcome her to the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2025.”

Other inductees announced so far are: Andy Kelly, Ron Slay, Joe Behling, the late Jack Jenkins, Chris Woodruff, Deon Grant, Doug Mathews, Derrick Mason, Stephen Gostkowski, Larry Kenon, Priscilla Gary Sweeney, the late Ronnie Robinson, the late Phillip Clark, Tony Allen, Elston Turner, George Pitts and Bob Brown.
