Not only do the Iowa Hawkeyes pump out players to the NFL, but head coach Kirk Ferentz has a healthy presence of coaches that were once with Iowa now scattered among the NFL.
In one of the most high-profile moves of the offseason, the Chicago Bears hired Ben Johnson away from the Detroit Lions to become their new head coach. As he rounds out his staff, he is bringing a former Hawkeye on board.
Joining Johnson’s staff is Declan Doyle as the offensive coordinator. Doyle, who is the son of former Iowa strength and conditioning coach Chris Doyle, will get his shot to call plays in the NFL.
The #Bears are hiring #Broncos TE coach Declan Doyle as their new offensive coordinator, per me and @TomPelissero.
A key hire for coach Ben Johnson, Doyle is a rising offensive mind. At just 28, he’s now an OC. pic.twitter.com/UicDflFnmJ

Declan Doyle attended the University of Iowa and joined Kirk Ferentz’s staff in 2016 as a student offensive assistant where he stayed until 2019.
Following Iowa, Doyle joined the New Orleans Saints as an offensive assistant from 2019-2022 before heading to the Denver Broncos, where he took on the role of the tight ends coach from 2023-24.
At just 28 years old, Doyle becomes one of the youngest to receive coordinator duties in the NFL but does so with Bears’ history in him. He is the nephew of former Chicago Bears head coach Mike Ditka.
