Coach Matt LaFleur has praise for ex-Packers running back Aaron Jones
Minnesota Vikings running back Aaron Jones returns to Lambeau Field this Sunday, but for the first time as a member of a team other than the Packers.
Former Green Bay Packers receiver Jordy Nelson is still around the NFL, revealed in a league press release as an appeal-hearing officer in player-discipline cases.
Nelson was itemized as one of four former NFL players serving the role in the league’s notice about Chargers safety Derwin James, who was suspended one game for repeated violations of safety rules, the latest a helmet-to-helmet collision against Pittsburgh on Sunday.
The suspension initially was doled out by NFL vice president of football operations Jon Runyan, the father of ex-Packers offensive lineman Jon Runyan Jr. Should a player appeal, his case is heard by one of four former NFL players: Derrick Brooks (who heard the James case and upheld the suspension), Kevin Mawae, Ramon Foster or Nelson.
Previously, Brooks and James Thrash were the only two players who heard appeals. The addition of Nelson and doubling the overall number of appeals officers will help expedite the appeals process, according to Pro Football Talk.
The four are jointly compensated by the NFL players association and the league for their role.
Nelson spent a decade in Green Bay, making the Pro Bowl in 2014 and earning second-team All Pro honors. He was named comeback player of the year in 2016 after returning from a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and caught a touchdown in the Super Bowl in 2010. Last year, he was inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame.
