Former Florida football linebacker David Reese II joins coaching staff

David Reese II, a former Florida football linebacker, has been hired to be the Gators‘ quality control coach, according to Florida Victorious‘ Nick de la Torre.

Reese, a native of Farmington, Michigan, joined the Gators as part of the 2016 recruiting class. Over his four seasons at UF, Reese became a cornerstone of the Gators’ defense, serving as a team captain for three years from 2017 to 2019.

Throughout his collegiate career, Reese amassed 322 total tackles, including 21 for loss and contributed 3.5 sacks.

Following his tenure at Florida, Reese signed with the Carolina Panthers in the NFL and later the Minnesota Vikings.

With his focus shifted towards coaching, Reese began as a defensive graduate assistant at Central Michigan under former Florida football head coach Jim McElwain in 2021. His coaching journey also included stops at Indiana and Eastern Michigan.

Reese’s return to the Gators marks a full-circle moment, symbolizing a homecoming steeped in both personal and professional significance. The former linebacker will be working closely with the Florida edge rushers.

In addition to Reese’s hiring, Florida’s support staff this week also welcomed Steve Spurrier Jr. With these coaching additions, the Gators are really trying to bolster their coaching expertise as they look to be competitive in the SEC next season.
