Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has criticized former England players for their remarks on India’s matches being held in Dubai during the ICC Champions Trophy. The Indian cricket team was scheduled to play all its matches in Dubai due to security concerns preventing them from traveling to Pakistan.
Former England cricketers Nasser Hussain and Mike Atherton recently claimed that playing all matches at a single venue gave India an unfair advantage. Responding to these comments, Gavaskar dismissed their concerns, advising them to focus on their own team rather than India’s success.
Gavaskar questioned why England failed to qualify for the semi-finals and suggested that instead of commenting on India’s victories, they should analyze their own team’s shortcomings. “Your players seem to be in a state of mind where they cannot digest the result,” Gavaskar remarked.
He further emphasized the importance of responsibility when representing one’s country and stated that England should not be envious of India’s situation. Gavaskar also highlighted India’s contributions to international cricket, not just in terms of performance but also financially. “India supports the game in many ways, including through media rights, which generate significant revenue. You should understand that even your salaries, in some way, come from India,” Gavaskar said.
