After not playing in the league for multiple seasons, former Detroit Lions tight end Eric Ebron has decided to call it a career.

Ebron took to social media to announce his retirement, and in his post was a photo of himself and Pittsburgh Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger, who was the last quarterback to throw Ebron a pass in the NFL.

“A career is a career!!” Ebron wrote. “I’m proud of me! Thankful for everyone along this journey.”

A former first-round pick of the Lions, Ebron spent eight seasons in the NFL. After playing with the Lions for four years, Ebron moved on to play for the Indianapolis Colts for two seasons, where he earned his first and only Pro Bowl nod.

Ebron’s best season came in 2018 with the Colts, when he tallied career-highs in catches (66), yards (750) and touchdowns (13). Ebron’s second-best season came with the Lions in 2016, when he finished with 61 catches for 711 yards and one score.

After his stints with the Colts and Lions, Ebron landed with the Steelers in 2020 and had a productive season, tallying 558 receiving yards and five touchdowns in 15 games.

He appeared in eight games with the Steelers the following season but had just 12 catches for 84 yards and one touchdown before he suffered a season-ending injury.

Prior to his NFL career, Ebron had a very productive college career, tallying 112 receptions for 1,805 yards and eight touchdowns over 34 games. That impressive showing led to him being the No. 10 overall pick of the Lions in 2014.
