A Clemson “WRU” product shined with a standout performance in his NFL team’s preseason game on Thursday night.
Former Tiger and current Philadelphia Eagles receiver Joseph Ngata balled out, hauling in five receptions for a game-high 88 yards in the Eagles’ 14-13 win over the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.
Ngata caught the ball all five times he was targeted and averaged 17.6 yards per catch, with his longest reception going for 28 yards.
According to Clemson Assistant Athletic Director for Football Communications Ross Taylor, Ngata’s 88 yards are the second-most receiving yards in a game by any NFL player thus far this preseason.
Pro Football Network’s Anthony DiBona named Ngata as one of the Eagles players whose stock is on the rise following Thursday’s strong showing:
The Eagles have been waiting for anyone to step up at wide receiver. Joseph Ngata answered the call in a major way against the Patriots.
Ngata hauled in all five of his targets to lead the team with 88 receiving yards.
Considering that no wide receiver has separated themselves from the pack thus far, Ngata could be a dark horse to make the 53-man roster. With another strong performance in the team’s final preseason game, Ngata could earn a spot on Philadelphia’s final roster.
Ngata, a former undrafted free agent in April 2023, recorded 88 career receptions for 1,287 yards and six touchdowns over 45 career games at Clemson from 2019-22.
Clemson was also represented on the field in Thursday’s Eagles-Patriots game by a couple of other Eagles in rookie running back Will Shipley and rookie linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Trotter tallied a tackle, while Shipley recorded 15 rushing yards on five carries to go with four receptions for 31 yards on four targets.
