SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KTXL) – Cameron Champ is a golfer on the PGA Tour. A native of Sacramento, he has three career PGA Tour wins.
He grew up right next to Foothill High School, and there is a pretty good chance that is where he will be the next time he is in the area; his dad, Jeff, is the Mustangs’ new head golf coach.
The school officially announced the hiring on social media on Friday.
“We grew up less than 500 yards from there, our house. My dad went to high school there,” smiled Cameron Champ. “So, yeah, it’s kind of interesting to come full circle from when my dad went to high school. All these years later for him to be the golf coach.”
Jeff Champ is a Foothill High alum (class of 1985). He was a standout baseball player at the school.
For years, the Champ family has run Foothill Golf Course in Citrus Heights, and that will continue.
“The focus is golf, but it’s not. Golf is really just a platform,” said Cameron Champ. “There are a lot of things that come from the game of golf that we can instill in these kids to kind of help them grow, even if they don’t end up playing the game.”
