Florida looks to be moving forward with its pursuit of transfer portal quarterback Harrison Bailey.
Bailey worked out in front of the Gators’ coaching staff on Thursday morning before parlaying that workout into a visit to the Florida program in Gainesville.
Experts now believe there’s a good chance that the former Vol ends up with Florida.
On3 Sports’ recruiting experts Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos both dropped 60% confidence predictions on Friday that Bailey will transfer to Florida for his final year of eligibility.
Bailey entered the transfer portal on Jan. 3 after leading Louisville to a Sun Bowl victory over Washington and was named MVP in the process. That game was Bailey’s first start at quarterback since the 2020 season at Tennessee as he has spent most of his career as a backup.
A four-star prospect in the 2020 recruiting class, Bailey chose to take his talents to Jeremy Pruitt’s Tennessee Volunteers. The Georgia native appeared in six games and started the final three games of the season as he threw for 578 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions as a freshman.
Josh Heupel and his staff took over the Vols’ coaching room before Bailey’s sophomore season as Joe Milton III and Hendon Hooker took over the starting responsibilities during the 2021 season. Bailey would announce his intentions to enter the transfer portal mid-way through his second year in Knoxville.
Bailey spent the 2022 season at UNLV before joining the Louisville program for two seasons in 2023 and 2024. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound quarterback was thrust into a starting role for the Cardinals in the Sun Bowl on New Year’s Eve and led the team to a 35-34 victory with 164 passing yards and three touchdowns.
Bailey would enter the transfer portal just three days later.
Florida is preparing for quarterback DJ Lagway to fully take the wheel as the Gators’ starting quarterback in 2025 but the coaching staff still appears to be looking for depth behind Lagway in the quarterback room. Bailey, a five-year college football player and a former SEC quarterback, could be exactly what the Gators are looking for.
