BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Marek Fleming was tabbed SEC Men’s Golf Freshman of the Week on Wednesday the league office announced. It is the first player of the week honor for the Tomball, Texas, native.
Fleming recorded the second top-20 finish of his career in what was his third start in the lineup this season at the Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 10-12). He helped the No. 15 Gamecocks to a third-place finish in a strong field at the event, which opened the spring portion of the team’s schedule.
Fleming posted red numbers every round and shot 71-68-61 en route to totaling a new career-best, 54-hole score of 210 (-6). His second round 68 (-4) was new career-low, 18-hole score thanks to six birdies.
The Gamecocks return to action March 8-10 at the John Hayt Invitational at Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Bech, Fla.
