Nate Carter is a very talented back and a captain of the team for a reason, so this is nothing towards him, but the Spartans seem to have found something in Kay-Ron Lynch Adams. The transfer from UMass runs angry, and seems to be able to turn a loss of two into a gain of three, which is a great skill for a running back.
Adams is averaging 6.2 yards per carry this year. He did have a bad fumble against Boston College on an ill-advised kick return, but Adams was able to start breaking down the Eagles at the end of the game before he was subbed out and MSU settled for a field goal on their second to last drive of the game.
The Spartans have been splitting the carries this season between Adams and Carter, with Carter getting four more carries on the season. I think this split should flip, with Adams getting a few more carries a game.
